I created a list of useful websites for those of you who are newbies to Vancouver and who struggle to find your way around the city. You can use the website to look for a job, find good deals, to connect with other travelers and much more.
Craiglist is essential if you’re looking for a job, to rent a house, buy a bike or find a tennis partner. It simply has it all! Craiglist is a number one website for many travelers and residents to search for whatever they need. I used Craiglist several times, too, to purchase my second-hand tennis racket and my brand new coffee maker, both for an amazing price.
You can score great deals on your desired items but keep your guard on as there are many ongoing scams. If it seems too good to be true, then it’s probably a scam. Use your best judgment before finalizing the deal.
If you’re new to Vancouver and you didn’t find any attractive job offers on Craiglist, you might try to search for a job on this website, especially if you’re looking for a serious job. Unlike Craiglist, this particular site is solely focused on job advertising and I used it as a primary source to find job offers, too.
Groupon is a great website to search for great deals for almost anything. You choose your current location and all the deals in your vicinity will pop up. You can search according to the categories, location or your area of interest. You can always find a must-have deal whether it’s a dining experience, adventure, sport or vacations abroad. On the top of it, Groupon offers promo codes for your purchases every now and then so you get a discount on your discounted rate! Ain’t too shabby, hey? Vancouver is an expensive city, but if you become a regular on Groupon you can enjoy most of the luxury thrills in Vancouver at the discounted price!
Do you want to have an overview of what’s happening in Vancouver? You can find a monthly calendar of events and festivals with a brief description on Vancouver’s Best Places site. This site is dedicated to informing tourists about the current events, attractions, city areas and much more.
Foodora is one of my recent discoveries on how to make my life in Vancouver easier. Foodora offers a great selection of restaurants in your neighborhood which will deliver the food straight to your door. Asian cuisine, Canadian poutine, Italian pizza or any fresh, healthy, organic, bio, raw alternatives to a meal – you can order it all here. Enjoy and don’t forget to tip the delivery guy!
As long as we are on the food subject, I recommend having a look at this amazing list of all happy hour places in Vancouver. Happy hour is the time of the day when restaurants and pubs experience low visitor flow so they keep things moving by offering happy hour deals all over Vancouver. Happy hour usually takes place between 3 pm to 6 pm and this blog listed most of the places. If you are into fine dining, but your budget doesn’t allow you to do so, this is a perfect opportunity to treat yourself. Being a fan of oysters, I’ve already tried a few restaurants on the list and I’ve had only positive experience so far. Thumbs up!
If you are new to the city, you might struggle to find your way around. This is the official site for the transportation system in Vancouver and you will find all the information you need here, including schedules, maps, and the trip planner.
I used to travel solo for many years and I know it’s not always easy to be a solo traveler. International Travelers community exists on Facebook and invites like-minded people in Vancouver to join the group. As in any other community, you can ask for help, advise, sell and buy stuff from other travelers and so on. It feels good to be a part of the community, especially if you’re alone in a foreign land. Don’t be shy and join us on Facebook!
